Homebuyer Education and Counseling

Highly trained and professional staff are available to provide both pre and post purchase counseling.  Individual counseling is available on loan programs, credit, budgeting, and other homeownership-related topics.  In addition, workshops for potential homebuyers and current homeowners are conducted on a regular basis.  All counseling and workshops are provided in both English and Spanish.

Online Homebuyer Education

You can now complete a Homebuyer Education course online. You are able to complete the course at your own pace and the cost of the online course is $20. By clicking the link below, you will be redirected to the online Homebuyer Education website. Once you successfully complete the course, you must contact an NPHS counselor to obtain your Homebuyer Education Certificate. Each person requesting a certificate, must individually register and pay for the online course.

Please note:

Before taking the online course, please verify that your lender and the City in which you are applying for down payment assistance will accept the online certification and does not require an in person consultation.

The following Cities do not accept online homebuyer education:

  • Hemet
  • Ontario
  • Pomona
  • Rialto
  • Riverside

Homebuyer Education Workshops

NPHS’ Homebuyer Education classes are especially designed for potential homebuyers who are serious about taking control of the home buying process and want to be prepared to make the right decisions.  These classes take the mystery out of the home buying process.  Also, a Certificate of Completion is provided upon attendance of the class.  Since NPHS is a HUD-approved counseling agency, this certificate fulfills the education requirements for certain loan and assistance programs.  Homebuyer Education classes are held on Saturdays at least once per month.  They begin at 9:00 a.m. and end around 4:00 p.m. at the latest. There is a $25 material fee for all workshop participants.

Financial Literacy Workshops

NPHS provides financial education classes on issues such as credit education, importance of homeowners insurance, predatory lending, homebuyer orientation & preparation, and foreclosure prevention. NPHS’ classes on Financial Literacy are provided on a regular basis and are usually on a Saturday.
